Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd grants consent for major urban extension for Ballyclare

Neptune Group is delighted to have achieved planning consent for the construction of 699 homes located between the Doagh and Rashee Roads in Ballyclare. This is the final section of the 165-acre residential site, spanning the western and northern boundaries of the town, purchased by Neptune Group in November 2015.

To date, Neptune has constructed 138 homes at Readers Park and Ollar Valley in the town, as well as achieving full planning approval for a further 272 homes and a local retail centre. The lands will be accessed by the northern Ballyclare Relief Road, which is under construction and is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.

Infrastructure Minister, John O’Dowd recently issued a Notice of Opinion to approve the development stating that

“Approval has already been granted for the Northern and Southern sections of the Relief Road. This latest approval can act as a catalyst to pave the way for the completion of the Ballyclare Relief Road.

“This key component of the overall development will aid in the delivery of long-term benefits for commuters using the route by improving journey time and reliability as well as providing traffic relief for Ballyclare town centre by providing an alternative route for traffic.

“I also believe that the construction of new homes will deliver community benefits and be a key driver in stimulating economic growth. It will also support various construction jobs and allow facilitation of workforce management over the wider development. I look forward to the applicant delivering this development so that these benefits can be realised.”
